IRS Tax Forms, Where to Get Them, and Publication

Filing a tax return is quite challenging for individuals and businesses. Whether you are self-employed or have a permanent job at a reputable company, filing the right IRS tax form is pretty overwhelming for everyone who has to report taxable income.

What makes it even more difficult is the fact that there are tons of IRS forms, each for different purposes, and each has unique information. The IRS also makes amendments to these forms every year to incorporate new changes in the tax policies. Fortunately, the Internal Revenue Service has made these forms quite easy to read and file, so there’s nothing to worry about. The question is, where to get tax forms? Can you print these forms on your own? Let’s find out.

Where Can You Get IRS Tax Forms?

  • You can contact the IRS customer support service on 800-829-1040 and ask them to share the income tax returns form on your email.

  • Get blank tax forms from reputable tax software providers.

  • Use IRS Free File Program to get different types of blank income tax return forms even if you don’t report any taxable income. These forms are available for everyone regardless of their income.

  • Visit the IRS website to get the income tax return forms in PDF format. You can download them from the website.

  • Check your library, local IRS office, and other state authorities. They often distribute tax forms for free during the filing season. These communities offer the printed version of the IRS tax forms.

The IRS has made tax filing easy for US residents, especially elder citizens who often face difficulty understanding complicated terms. They have issued Form 1040-SR for seniors (a new, easy-to-read, and short version of the traditional 1040 form). It uses the same instructions, form-filling guidelines, and structure as the normal 1040 but is comparatively readable.

Who Issues IRS Tax Forms?

Most of these forms are issued by your employer. They mention your total earnings for the calendar year and the taxable amount they have withheld. They send a copy of this form to the IRS, state authorities, and the employee. For example, a W-2 form must be sent to you by your employer. If you have worked as a freelancer for more than one employee in a year, you need a 1099 form. If the employer doesn’t send the form by 31st January for the previous year, ask them to issue it before this date. Contact IRS customer service if you still don’t get the form. They will contact your employer on your behalf.

Double-check the W-2 and other IRS tax forms that your employer has issued just to ensure that there are no errors. Errors in the tax returns, such as underpaying taxes or neglecting the IRS tax laws, can result in penalties. Likewise, not filing or paying your tax returns on time can lead to penalties and interest. If you can’t fill it on your own, hire an accountant to simplify the tax filing.
